08-09-26 PRESENTATION TO TUITION ASSISTANCE RECIPIENTS This year the Tuition Assistance Committee consisted of Terry Saunders and Nancy Gabrielli.  I’ve been tracking the awards since 2015 and thru 2026, we’ve now assisted 44 students for a total of $21,500. This year 6 recipients will each receive $500 and I'd like to tell you about each of them now.  I’ll distribute the checks and take some pictures after at the end of the meeting.  When I call out your name, please wave /stand while I read your bio. QUINN CORDIAL – Quinn attended Saint John’s High School in Shrewsbury where he graduated with a 3.32 GPA.  He is here today with his sponsor / parents Melissa and Keith Cordial of Thomas Lane.  In high school Quinn participated in the golf program, played lacrosse and was the statistician for the varsity hockey team for three years.  He volunteered to do spring and fall cleanup for those needing help in his community.  He served as a mentor at youth camp and was a mentor to Freshman students this past year as well.   Quinn attended our annual meeting last year when his sister Meredith received assistance when she was heading off to Fairfield University.  His relatives Joe and Mary Noonan have also been members of the OSDA for many years and are here today.  Quinn will attend Fairfield University to pursue a degree in Business. RYAN GASBARRO - Ryan attended Newburyport High School where he graduated with a 3.5 GPA.   He is here today with his parents, Marianne and Chris Gasbarro and his sponsor and grandmother Anne Prior (<2012) of Clipper Lane.  Ryan was a peer mentor in the CLIPS program which is Clippers in Leadership and Practice that helps mentor incoming freshmen.  Ryan was a varsity soccer player for 4 years and was captain his junior and senior years.  He participated in helping kids develop their love for soccer by being a TOTs soccer coach during his high school years.  He also volunteered at various PTO events.  Ryan worked for 2 years at the YMCA summer camp program where he made great connections with many younger children.  Ryan will be attending Indiana University. JAMES MORRISON – James graduated from Falmouth High School with a GPA of 3.48.  He is here today with his parents Jessica and Clarke Morrison and his sponsor / grandmother Lea Shade who lives on Shore Street.  James played lacrosse for 2 years and soccer for 2 years.  He was a member of the National Art Honors Society and was a 1st place winner of the 2025 Stellwagen Bank Marine Art Competition.  His community service work includes the National Honors Society and the Falmouth Road Race.  He said “growing up on Shore Street, teaching classes at the local art center and volunteering for local road races have been wonderful opportunities”. The Old Stone Dock Association served 70 beach workers including lifeguards, parking attendants, clerks, supervisors, management and guests a breakfast at 7:30 am on Monday, 07/20/26 at the Surf Drive Beach Ellen T Mitchell Bathhouse before the beach workers headed off to their daily assignments at 8:30 am. Special thanks to Jamie Schuh at Cape Cod Bagel for their generous discount on bagels and cream cheese.  Other items included corn bread, banana bread, cinnamon buns, mandarins, apples, breakfast bars, rice Krispie treats and a variety of beverages. Beach Committee members in attendance were Chair Barb Schneider, Vice Chair Joe Strazzulla as well as members Trish Herlihy and Nancy Quigg.  Margie Mitchell, daughter of Ellen T Mitchell who the bathhouse was named for was also in attendance to thank the beach workers and remind all about the Ellen T Mitchell Scholarship program.  A photographer from the Falmouth Enterprise was present and as a result there were 3 large pictures with captions in the newspaper on Friday, 07/24/26.  The Falmouth Beaches posted a nice thank you to the OSDA on their Facebook Page, along with many pictures, which was also shared to 3 other Facebook Pages (Fabulous Falmouth, Anything Falmouth and Fabulous Falmouth Events) where committee members were mentioned. Committee members who worked on shopping beforehand and prep on Sunday included Terry Saunders, Steve Saunders, Nancy Gabrielli, Bill Lee, Pat Albanese and Mary Silva Doctor. The Monday morning crew consisted of Terry Saunders, Steve Saunders, Nancy Gabrielli, Bill Lee, Pat Albanese, Al Gabrielli and Laura Puopolo.   We always enjoy speaking with everyone who work for the Falmouth Beaches.  Thanks to all who made this event a special day.  Pictures below were taken by Falmouth Beaches, Laura Puopolo and Steve Saunders. On 06/02/26 President Rich Sherman mailed the OSDA annual letter to the membership.  With it he included a joint renewal form and a remittance form for our annual meeting to be held on Sunday, 08/09/26 at 4 pm. If you haven’t already remitted either payment, please click on one of the forms below for the membership application form or the annual meeting invite for 08/09/26 with full details.  If you are unable to print the forms, please provide the information requested with your check(s). We have an exciting cocktail reception planned which will include a presentation to our tuition assistance recipients.  Applications details and instructions are on the website and are due by 06/30/26.  We’ll be offering a Cheese & Fruit Display and Passed Hors d’oeuvres including Scallops wrapped in Bacon, Coconut Shrimp, Tenderloin of Beef Crostini, Mushrooms stuffed with Spinach & Boursin and a Cash Bar.  OSDA Membership Application - New, Renew, Change - updated 06-2026 .  Please remit now. Board member Steve Saunders dropped off the 16 flower boxes at Soares Flower Garden Nursery early May and he picked up the completed boxes and put them in place at the Ellen T Mitchell Bathhouse before the Memorial Day Weekend.  The OSDA presented a check for $1,093.68 to the Beach Department payable to the Beach Donation Account to cover the cost of flowers.  Since 2021 Steve has watered the flowers in May and June before the Bathhouse is staffed and again in September once the bathhouse is no longer daily staffed. If you’d like to partially or fully sponsor the flowers this year and have a plaque installed on the building in honor or in memory of a family member, please write to Terry Saunders at info@oldstonedock.com for more details.

In November 2025 Eversource was still at work at the Surf Drive Beach Parking Lot.  On 04/03/26 Lawrence-Lynch Corp was paving the parking lot.  On 04/27/26 I took a picture of the finished cross walk that was ‘reinstalled’ going from the corner of Walker Street to the right of the Ellen T Mitchell Bath House and the Surf Drive Beach Parking lot that had been paved and restriped.  Members of the OSDA Board and Committee members petitioned the DPW in 2025 with a written report followed up with an office visit to get this reinstalled and we are pleased that they reconsidered and put the cross walk back.                              

Old Stone Dock Members, Cathy Kligler, Beth Whelan and MaryEllen O’Leary distributed candy to 300 costumed children, adults and various creatures the Saturday before Halloween as part of the Falmouth Village Annual Halloween Stroll.  Fun was had by all.

Present Officers and Board Members Our Treasurer - Bob Lehtinen assisted by Cindy Lehtinen Bob and Cindy check for mail at the P O Box, deposits all incoming checks during renewal times and when we have events. Bob pays the OSDA bills. Our Secretary -  Terry Saunders The secretary keeps meeting minutes, prepares and sends correspondence at the direction of the board of directors and the president and answers or forwards emails addressed to our info@oldstonedock.com email address. Terry also updates the OSDA web site with information about future and past events, messages from the president or board and includes pictures from events and from around the neighborhood. As membership chair she records and updates info on all members. Board Members who are here today are: Brian Callanan, Cindy Lehtinen, Anne Prior, Steve Saunders and Rich Sherman. Paul Smith is also on the board but not here today. In September Fran Ahern will be joining the board and Brian Callanan will be stepping down. Members Al and Nancy Gabrielli are not on the board but have attended most board meetings and have been active on several committees. We will be awarding $500 each to 4 students through our Tuition Assistance Program. The beach cleanup day was held on Saturday, 05/31/25.  We were initially concerned about the weather and made a decision to stay with the Saturday schedule.  The rain stopped an hour before we started and the heavy winds and storm started later in the afternoon.  Since the sand was soaked, we were unable to use the blowers and had to do a lot of shoveling by hand. Twenty-one members and guests participated and included:  Pat & Tony Albanese, Laura & Stephen Day, Brian Doyle, Jim Fox, Jan Goodell, Sherri & Jonathan Horn, Ed Jackson, Bob & Cindy Lehtinen, Louise Mitchell, Anne Prior, Steve & Terry Saunders, Paul & Sandy Smith and Dean Sullivan.  Beach committee members Barb Schneider and Joe Strazzula also met with members, thanked the OSDA for their contributions to the neighborhood and helped with the cleanup.                

The flower boxes at the Ellen T Mitchell Bathhouse were installed on 05/22/25.  Board Member Steve Saunders coordinated and picked up the completed flower boxes from Soares Gardens.  Steve watered the flowers until the bathhouse opened full time on 06/26/25.  Funds were provided from the OSDA to the Beach Donation Account to cover the cost of materials and labor from Soares.

On May 1st our annual letter went out to paid up members for 06/01/24 to 05/31/25 and to a small group of lapsed members who had not renewed in the last few years.  Printing, stuffing, mailing, collecting funds, checking and recording the information is quite cumbersome so a decision was made that paid up members would be considered renewed for the 06/01/25 to 05/31/26 membership year.  Seven families that had lapsed recently renewed as well as three new memberships.  The following is the letter that was emailed to all.  We appreciate you and your support throughout the years. May 2025 Hello Neighbor and Greetings from the Old Stone Dock Association We hope that this letter finds you well. It is being sent via email (no mailing this year) to the 220 paid-up members from June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025.  We will not be collecting dues from present members this year.  You will automatically be renewed for June 1, 2025 to May 31, 2026.  We are doing this for two reasons (1) to reduce the workload of the membership committee in printing and mailing to several hundred members and then processing and checking their information against present lists which takes place over several months and (2) to spend down funds in our present treasury. The last two years we have attempted to bring new and possibly younger people to the board by reaching out to those we thought that might be interested and requesting help via a survey last year.  This led to a few additions but not enough.  We didn’t have a President in 2024 and haven’t had a Vice President (to move up) in many years.  We can’t seem to find current members who want to be on the board, an officer or to lead or be on a committee to run our activities and events.  During the coming months we will be assessing what programs we will be able to continue and which will be eliminated.  The present board, may have to make the difficult decision to spend down funds and dissolve the association at some point. The Association strives to promote a sense of community for residents in the neighborhood of Main Street to Surf Drive between Shore Street and Mill Road and all the streets and residents within those boundaries.  We perform a variety of services and social activities focused primarily on our neighborhood.  We want to thank all the members of the Old Stone Dock Association whose dues have been used to support these programs. The following is a list of the accomplishments and activities for 2024.  05/22/24 Flower Boxes - The flower boxes at the Ellen T. Mitchell bathhouse were purchased from Soares Nursery and were installed in time for the Memorial Day weekend.
