The Scholarship Committee consisted of Chairman Jim Crossen and members Mike Herlihy and Terry Saunders.

It is through the generosity of our members that we were able to provide 3 $500 awards this year.   Since the recipients were already back to school when the annual meeting was held in September the checks were mailed to the recipients on August 23, 2017.

Our first recipient was Meghan Doherty.   Meghan is attending St. Michaels College in Colchester, Vermont and pursuing a degree in Business.  Her parents are OSD Members Sean and Rebecca Doherty.  They have a home on Stratford Road.  Meghan graduated from Stoughton High School and played ice hockey for her school and club teams.  She was a volunteer tutor.  One of her summer jobs was to work at Pies a la mode.  She said she’d love to open an eatery in Falmouth that caters to people with food allergies.

Our 2nd recipient was Emily Doyle.   Emily is pursuing a degree in Engineering at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.  Her grandfather is our President, Kevin Doyle who has a home on Mill Road.  Emily graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican High School in New Orleans with a 4.0 GPA.  She was co-captain of her cross country team and president of the National Honor Society her senior year.  Her volunteer work includes work with her church and a mission to the Dominican Republic.  She became certified as a life guard at Surf Drive Beach and has participated in the Falmouth Triathlon.

Our 3rd recipient was Calvin Kinghorn. Calvin is attending Bowdoin College in Brunswick Maine and pursuing a degree in Economics and Physics.  His Grandmother Melanie Karp has a home on Bywater Court.  Calvin graduated from Noble and Greenough School in Dedham.  He was on the crew team as well as the Varsity Ice Hockey Team.  He was also a dedicated percussionist and guitarist and has played with the Drum Ensemble and various student bands.  Calvin has logged over 100 hours as an academic and test prep tutor and member of the Leadership Council at school.  Calvin recalls fondly finding crabs and catching fish at Surf Drive Beach as a youngster.
